Meditation Taught Me Geeky Web Stuff
Because I meditate, I learned to format photos for the web, create a podcast, upload files and add links and even start with search engine optimization – SEO for those of you who may be geeky enough.
Let me explain.
Last Saturday I walked in the door of my church, First Unitarian Universalist of Rochester (MN not NY). It was our Mid-Winter Retreat. I was going to talk for 10 minutes about belonging. And I’d signed up for other topics too. But I felt drained from a week of training people and travel. The meditation session seemed so much more soothing to me.
So I asked Carol, our minister, if I could switch. She sadly informed me that the meditation session was canceled. The guy who was supposed to teach had a case of the current winter bug that was making its rounds. My mouth opened and I said, “Well I can teach it.” And so I did – roping my partner into delivering a Tibetan bowl and my materials from a previous workshop.
How astounding and delightful when the world opens up after you choose a direction. Just a few weeks earlier I decided not to join a leadership training program based on the medicine wheel teachings. Many reasons for that which I will leave for another post. But one of the reasons had to do with wanting to commit more deeply to my community. And here was my community, offering me a chance to teach, to lead.
At the end of the meditation class, people asked me to email the materials to them. A few asked if I could record the guided meditation I led for them. Now I could have just emailed it to them. But I thought why not put that out on my website for others to use as well.
And there you have it. How meditation taught me geeky web stuff. At least indirectly.

Happy meditating!

Hey LAURA, I tried to find your FB account too many Laura D’ambrosios. Somehow I got this site. I’ve been wondering why after all these many years and so many journeys I keep running into you and I think I found the answer in your own words “Many reasons for that which I will leave for another post. But one of the reasons had to do with wanting to commit more deeply to my community. And here was my community, offering me a chance to teach, to lead.” this is more the antithesis of what I am doing here in Eagan but what Nancy and I have come to learn on our journey that was never very clear after 19 yrs of being together is that its not about where you are its about where your heart is. Where your peeps are your family. You can be in ShangriLa but if there alone and all who matter are elsewhere you are not complete. So I shant be long here in MN or FL and we will having learned finally the precious value of our time together how often we have taken that for granted and I have played Pilot Widow. When we return to CA I hope to see you. This has been a long time coming for Nancy. A true revelation that she is married to me not her job and her job while she loves it will not comfort her in the night. Namaste, T
